Enrico Fagone is Principal double bass of OSI-Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Professor of double bass at the Conservatory of Lugano, Artistic Director of the Giovanni Bottesini Competition and Music Director and artistic director of the Long Island Concert Orchestra in New York.

After a lightning career that places him very young among the best double bass players in the
world, as a conductor he has already received great acclaim from audiences and critics as well.
He has performed all over the world with great orchestras such as the RAI National Symphony
Orchestra of Turin, LaVerdi the Milan Symphony Orchestra Giuseppe Verdi, the Marche
Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of
Padova e del Veneto, the Marchigiana Philharmonic Orchestra, I Virtuosi Italiani, the Mendelsshon
Chamber Orchestra, I Musici di Parma and the Savaria Symphony Orchestra.

In January 2019 he conducted the RAI National Symphony Orchestra with the famous pianist
Martha Argerich as soloist, he has received great public and critical acclaim and it has been
broadcast on National TV on RAI5 TV.

Also an active conductor in the Opera field, he conducted the Opera “Cosi fan tutte” by Mozart at
the Kammeroper in Munich, the Orchestra of the Serbian national theater,
and next October will debut at the Verdi Festival of Parma at the head of the Philharmonic
Orchestra of the Italian Opera Bruno Bartoletti.

His position as Ambassador of the Martha Argerich presents Project in the world leads him to
devote many of his energies even to the younger generations, in fact he brought back to life the
famous Giovanni Bottesini Competition (of which he is the artistic director) and he is regularly
invited to hold double bass masterclasses in the larger institutions such as the Juilliard School in New York, the Manhattan School of Music, the Jerusalem Academy, the Royal College of London, the
Superior Conservatory of Paris CNSMDP, the Geneva Conservatory, the Tokyo Toho and the
Salzburg Mozarteum. Furthermore, he is a double bass teacher at the Lugano Conservatory of
Switzerland.

Musician always in search of “the new” collaborates closely with composers, stimulating new
creations and bringing out compositions that have been performed only little but of an undisputed
value. As a double bass player he appears regularly in the most important chamber music
festivals around the world where he collaborates with artists such as Martha Argerich, Misha
Maisky, Vadim Repin, Katia and Marelle Labèque and many others. He has recorded for the
record labels EMI, Deutsche Grammophon and Warner.

Before to start his conducting career, he had the opportunity to perform for fifteen years plenty of
symphonic and opera repertoire as a Principal Double bass of the “Orchestra della Svizzera
Italiana” and in some of the finest orchestras and theaters throughout the world, such as the
Orchestra of “La Scala” Theater (Milan) and Festival Strings Lucern.

He studied Composition with Jorge Bosso and Ivo Antognini and Orchestral Conducting at the
“Claudio Abbado” school in Milan, as well with the famous teacher Jorma Panula in Helsinki
(Panula Academy) who has pushed him to pursue a career as a conductor. In addition to this he
avails from the valuable advices of the famous Russian conductor Semyon Bychkov who has
been able to follow in several productions.
